(Web Desk) – Pakistan has reaffirmed its strong strategic partnership with China, with President Asif Ali Zardari emphasizing deep bilateral cooperation and mutual support during a message marking Chinese New Year 2026.
In a statement issued from the President’s Office, Zardari congratulated the leadership and people of the People’s Republic of China on the beginning of the Year of the Horse, describing it as a symbol of energy, progress, and perseverance — qualities he said reflect the enduring relationship between Pakistan and China.
The president highlighted that 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which were established in 1951. Over more than seven decades, Pakistan and China have developed what he described as an “all-weather strategic partnership” rooted in trust, mutual respect, and shared strategic interests.
Recalling historical milestones, Zardari noted that former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was among the last global leaders to meet Chairman Mao Zedong, underscoring the longstanding foundation of bilateral ties.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s foreign policy stance, Zardari reiterated Islamabad’s consistent support for the One China Policy. He also acknowledged China’s backing of Pakistan on key national concerns, including its position on Jammu and Kashmir, where Beijing has called for a peaceful resolution consistent with the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions.
The president highlighted expanding cooperation under Chinese President Xi Jinping, particularly through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which he said is entering a new phase focused on infrastructure development, industrial growth, and regional connectivity.
He also praised China’s leadership role in multilateral organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), noting its contribution to regional security and economic integration across Eurasia.
Zardari added that his recent visits to China had strengthened strategic trust and opened new avenues for collaboration in economic development, technology, and cultural exchange. He reiterated that Pakistan and China remain “tried and tested brothers,” emphasizing that their partnership continues to be a cornerstone of regional cooperation and stability.
