Date:

Bannu, Pakistan – Web Desk: Security forces in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province successfully foiled a terror attack on the Mazanga police checkpoint in the Bannu district, officials said Tuesday.

According to police officials, a large group of militants attacked the checkpoint around 1:30 a.m. Security personnel responded immediately with heavy force. The exchange of fire continued until dawn, after which the militants retreated, suffering significant losses.

District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu, Yasir Afridi, personally led reinforcement teams to the site from Bannu police lines. Other security forces also took control of the surrounding area.

During a joint search operation, authorities recovered blood stains along the militants’ escape route, suggesting casualties. Security forces also seized abandoned weapons and equipment, including bandoliers, a ladder, and shoes.

One police constable, Faridullah, sustained minor injuries while displaying bravery during the encounter. He received immediate medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, praised the officers’ performance, calling them the province’s most valuable asset. “Terrorists target innocent civilians through cowardly acts, but their fate will be disastrous,” he said.

DPO Bannu Yasir Afridi reiterated that Bannu police are fully committed to eliminating terrorism and are giving a robust response to all types of militant actions.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Security forces remain on high alert in the region.
