Pakistan Mulls Foreign Help to Recover K2 Airways Black Box From Deep Sea

Date:

Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: The investigation into the K2 Airways cargo aircraft crash is continuing, with Pakistan’s Bureau of Aircraft Safety Investigation considering engaging international salvage companies to assist in the complex deep-sea recovery of the plane’s engines and flight recorders .

Black Box Critical for Investigation

The Boeing 737-400 freighter, operating as flight KTA1732 from Sharjah to Karachi, crashed into the Arabian Sea near Ormara on July 7 with five crew members on board . The aircraft reported a navigation system malfunction shortly before it disappeared from radar .

Search teams have recovered sections of the tail and other debris, but the main fuselage, engines, cockpit voice recorder, and flight data recorder remain unrecovered in waters approximately 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) deep .

Investigators say the technical investigation cannot advance until the black box and engines are recovered . The locator beacons on the 27-year-old aircraft are designed to transmit signals for only 30 days .

International Salvage Under Consideration

Due to the extreme depth and challenging conditions, a proposal has been submitted to the government to hire specialized foreign salvage firms with advanced deep-water recovery technology, including remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and sonar mapping systems .

Families of the crew members are urging authorities to deploy international resources for a transparent investigation .

The Pakistan Navy and Maritime Security Agency continue search operations in the area .
