ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan and Kuwait have signed a new defence cooperation protocol aimed at expanding military collaboration between the two countries, including training, capacity building and border management.
The agreement was signed during a high-level visit by Kuwaiti Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and his delegation to Pakistan on Thursday.
According to the report, the new Defence Cooperation Protocol Agreement 2026 expands the existing framework established under a 2023 defence cooperation agreement.
Pakistan to support Kuwaiti armed forces
Under the new agreement, the Pakistan Army will provide assistance to the Kuwaiti Armed Forces in several mutually agreed areas.
These include:
- Military training
- Capacity building
- Border management
- Other mutually agreed areas of defence cooperation
Pakistan and Kuwait described the agreement as reflecting the trust, mutual respect and shared strategic interests between the two countries.
Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their defence partnership and agreed to further enhance cooperation to promote mutual security, regional peace and stability.
Kuwaiti defence minister meets Field Marshal Asim Munir
Before the signing ceremony, the Kuwaiti defence minister led a high-level delegation to General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, where he met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces.
Kuwaiti Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Khaled Daraj Saad Al-Sharyan was also part of the delegation.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting covered matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defence cooperation.
Both sides reiterated their intention to strengthen institutional ties and expand bilateral defence cooperation.
Kuwait praises Pakistan’s armed forces
The Kuwaiti delegation praised the professional and operational capabilities of Pakistan’s armed forces and their services toward regional peace and stability, according to the report.
The meeting was described as an opportunity to further strengthen the longstanding and brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait and consolidate the bilateral defence partnership.
The two sides said stronger cooperation would contribute to regional security and stability.
Agreement builds on 2023 defence framework
The latest protocol expands a military cooperation framework established through an agreement signed by Pakistan and Kuwait in 2023.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office previously welcomed Kuwait’s ratification of the defence cooperation agreement, describing it as an important milestone in the defence relationship between the two countries.
The agreement comes as Islamabad and Gulf countries continue to strengthen defence and security cooperation amid evolving regional security challenges.
