Washington, United States – Web Desk: Pakistan arrested and handed over the alleged mastermind of the Abbey Gate bombing in Afghanistan to the United States, according to the US Counterterrorism Report 2026.
The report stated that the suspect linked to the deadly Abbey Gate attack was captured within 43 days during a coordinated counterterrorism operation. The individual was later transferred to US custody by Pakistani authorities.
According to the report, former US President Donald Trump publicly thanked Pakistan for its cooperation in the operation.
The Abbey Gate bombing, which took place during the chaotic evacuation from Kabul airport in 2021, killed dozens of people, including US service members and Afghan civilians. The attack was claimed by ISIS-K, also known as داعش خراسان.
The US report further noted that Washington is intensifying operations against extremist organizations including Al-Qaeda and ISIS-K, which it described as major global security threats.
US authorities also announced plans to expand cooperation with allied and partner countries to combat terrorism, intelligence threats, and transnational militant networks across the region.
