Pakistan Economy Faces 3 Key Challenges, Says Finance Minister

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has presented key highlights of the Economic Survey, stating that Pakistan successfully managed three major economic challenges during the outgoing fiscal year.

He said the survey reflects not only the current economic situation but also the broader economic performance of the past year. According to him, the country faced economic uncertainty, severe flooding, and large-scale rescue and relief operations, along with global tariff pressures and external economic volatility.

The minister said these combined factors posed significant challenges for the government, but were managed successfully. He added that Pakistan’s GDP growth for the fiscal year stood at 3.7%, the highest level recorded in the past four years.

Aurangzeb noted that despite global and regional headwinds, economic growth was achieved. He said the government had initially aimed to push GDP growth above 4%, but geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affected performance.

On sectoral performance, the minister said 16 out of 22 manufacturing sectors recorded growth, while cement demand rose by 10%. He added that the services sector also reached its highest growth level in four years.

Regarding fiscal indicators, he said the fiscal deficit was contained at 0.7% of GDP, while the primary balance remained in surplus. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) revenues also increased by 10%, reflecting improved fiscal management.
