Despite defeat, Australia’s 9th-wicket pair breaks T20 partnership record
Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan defeated Australia by 22 runs in the first T20 of a three-match series at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, taking a 1-0 lead ahead of the T20 World Cup. Pakistan posted 168/8 after captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and opted to bat. Saim Ayub scored a quick 40 off 22 balls, while Agha contributed 39.
Australia’s chase faltered as they lost six wickets for just 100 runs, eventually finishing at 146/8. However, Adam Zampa and Bartlett staged a remarkable 9th-wicket partnership, scoring 34 unbeaten runs—breaking Australia’s previous T20 record of 23 runs for the 9th wicket.
The partnership revived Australia’s hopes but fell short of victory. Saim Ayub was named Player of the Match for his explosive innings, and Pakistan gained crucial momentum in the pre-World Cup series.
