The military says Major Wajahat Waheed was killed when security forces were targeted with an improvised explosive device during a clearance operation in Gwadar, while four militants were killed in a separate intelligence-based operation in Kalat.
QUETTA, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK, October 19, 2026: A Pakistan Army major was martyred during a security operation in Gwadar, while four militants were killed in a separate intelligence-based operation in Kalat district, the military’s media wing said on Monday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces carried out operations in the Shadi Kaur area of Pasni tehsil in Gwadar district and Jattakabad in Kalat on October 18 after receiving intelligence about the presence of militant hideouts.
Four Militants Killed in Kalat Operation
The ISPR said security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Jattakabad, Kalat district, where troops engaged a reported militant hideout.
Following an exchange of fire, four militants were killed, according to the military. Security personnel also recovered a quantity of weapons and ammunition from the site, the statement said.
The military described the targeted group as linked to what it calls “Fitna al-Hindustan”. That designation and the military’s claims about the group’s affiliation are attributed to the ISPR.
Major Wajahat Waheed Martyred in Gwadar
In a separate operation, security forces were conducting clearance activities in the Shadi Kaur area of Pasni, Gwadar district, when a contingent was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED).
The explosion resulted in the martyrdom of Major Wajahat Waheed, a Pakistan Army officer from Lahore, the ISPR said.
The military stated that clearance and sanitisation operations would continue to locate and eliminate any remaining militants in the area.
Counterterrorism Operations to Continue
The ISPR said counterterrorism efforts would continue under the government-approved framework of “Azm-e-Istehkam”, which is linked to the National Action Plan.
The operations come amid ongoing security challenges in Balochistan, where armed attacks and counterterrorism actions have continued to affect several districts.
Details in this report about the number of militants killed, weapons recovered and the circumstances of the officer’s death are based on the military’s account. Independent verification of the operational claims was not available in the reports reviewed.
