Pakistan Army Destroys More Afghan Taliban Posts After Angoor Adda Firing

Date:

Security sources say Pakistani forces struck Afghan Taliban positions near South Waziristan and Parachinar following cross-border firing in which one civilian was killed and five others were injured.

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: The Pakistan Army has destroyed several Afghan Taliban posts and military positions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in a fresh retaliatory operation following cross-border firing in the Angoor Adda area, according to Pakistani security sources.

Pakistani forces targeted positions in areas opposite South Waziristan and Parachinar after what it described as unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban personnel on Tuesday.

Pakistani troops used heavy weapons and forced Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon several positions. It also said there were reports of casualties among Afghan Taliban personnel, although no verified number was provided.

Fresh strikes follow deadly Angoor Adda incident

The latest operation follows a cross-border incident on the night of October 27, when firing and mortar shelling struck civilian areas near Angoor Adda in Lower South Waziristan.

A mortar shell hit a residential area, killing one civilian and injuring five members of the same family, according to Pakistani officials. Several shops in the area were also reportedly damaged.

The local deputy commissioner said the firing originated from across the border. Pakistani security sources subsequently reported that the army had destroyed several Afghan Taliban checkposts in response.

Pakistan reports further destruction of border positions

Pakistani forces carried out additional strikes against Afghan Taliban positions beyond the initial response reported earlier in the week.

Security sources, said the operation targeted posts and military positions near South Waziristan and Parachinar. It did not provide a precise number of positions destroyed or independently verified casualty figures.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had earlier said that seven Afghan Taliban posts were destroyed during the initial retaliatory action. That figure was part of the ministry’s account of the October 27–28 confrontation and should not be treated as the confirmed total from Friday’s reported operation.

Cross-border tensions continue

The latest exchange comes amid persistent tensions between Islamabad and the Afghan Taliban authorities.

Pakistan has repeatedly urged Kabul to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan. The Afghan Taliban authorities have denied allowing their territory to be used for attacks against other countries.

Pakistani regional official attributed the Angoor Adda firing to Afghan Taliban forces. The report said one person was killed and five injured, but did not include a response from Afghan authorities to that specific incident.
