ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Somalia’s Interior Minister Ali Yusuf met with Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during his official visit to Pakistan, where both sides agreed to adopt a joint strategy to counter terrorism and extremism.
Minister Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the Somali interior minister upon his arrival at the Ministry of Interior, where discussions were held on bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Somalia.
During the meeting, the two interior ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in the areas of training, border management, and disaster management. They also decided to further strengthen collaboration in internal security, counterterrorism, and overall security cooperation.
Both sides emphasized the need to improve coordination to expand collaboration in areas of shared interest. The Somali interior minister expressed his commitment to benefiting from Pakistan’s experience in combating terrorism and maintaining internal security.
In response, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured Somalia of Pakistan’s full support, particularly in the fields of policing and counterterrorism.
Ali Yusuf praised the infrastructure development initiatives undertaken in Islamabad under Mohsin Naqvi’s leadership, calling them commendable. He said Somalia is currently facing challenging circumstances and is engaged in an active fight against terrorist elements, adding that the visit would help further strengthen relations between the two countries.
Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan fully understands the challenges faced by Somalia and would provide complete cooperation in various sectors, including counterterrorism. He also announced visa facilitation for Somali citizens traveling to Pakistan for medical treatment and education.
On the occasion, the Somali interior minister conveyed a special message from the Prime Minister of Somalia to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and formally invited Mohsin Naqvi to visit Somalia.
The Somali delegation included Sheikh Noor Muhammad, Hassan Hamza Adan, Osman Abdullahi, Adal Abdi, and Asma Hagi, while Pakistan’s side included Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Interior Secretary, Additional Interior Secretary, Chief Commissioner and Inspector General of Islamabad, Director General FIA, and other senior officials.
