Islamabad – (Web Desk) More than two million Afghan nationals have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan over the past two and a half years, with the repatriation process still ongoing, officials confirmed.
According to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) spokesperson Qaiser Khan Afridi, over 2.075 million Afghan citizens have gone back to their home country since September 2023 through various border crossings, including Torkham.
Authorities stated that both voluntary repatriation and government-led measures are part of the phased return process. During this period, approximately 204,000 Afghan nationals were forcibly deported following legal proceedings.
The provincial home department reported that repatriation from the Landi Kotal transit camp is continuing at an accelerated pace. Recent figures show that 130 individuals from 29 Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holder families were sent back to Afghanistan.
Additionally, 784 individuals from 174 families holding Proof of Registration (PoR) cards have recently returned, while 108 individuals from 21 families residing illegally in the country were also deported.
Officials emphasized that action against undocumented foreign nationals will continue in accordance with the law. At the same time, facilitation measures are being provided for registered Afghan citizens to ensure an orderly and secure return process.
Authorities added that arrangements at border crossings, including Torkham and other routes, have been strengthened to manage the repatriation efficiently, with the evacuation process expected to continue in the coming days.
