Over 100 Israeli Settlers Attack West Bank Village, Homes Set Ablaze
JALUD, WEST BANK — WEB DESK: More than 100 Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Jalud in the occupied West Bank, setting homes and vehicles on fire and clashing with Israeli security forces during an attempt to return a displaced Palestinian family to its property.
The violence erupted as Israeli forces were escorting members of the Tubasi family back to two homes in Jalud. The family had been displaced around two months earlier following attacks by settlers.
Shortly after the family reached the properties, more than 100 settlers gathered in the area and the situation escalated. Israeli authorities said roads were blocked, tyres were burned and stones were thrown at security personnel.
Homes and vehicles belonging to Palestinians were also set on fire. Three Israeli Border Police officers suffered minor injuries during the clashes, while a security vehicle was damaged.
The escalating violence forced security forces to evacuate the Palestinian family again, preventing them from completing their return home. The two properties suffered extensive damage, including fire damage to their interiors.
Israeli authorities said arrests were made and an investigation into the violence had been launched.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack, saying such violence interfered with the work of security forces and harmed the wider settler community. Israeli President Isaac Herzog also condemned the violence and called for action against those responsible.
A separate settler attack was also reported in the Palestinian village of Al Mughayyir, where vehicles were set on fire and other property was damaged.
The incidents come amid heightened concern over settler violence in the occupied West Bank. The United Nations has documented repeated incidents involving physical assaults, vandalism and arson against Palestinians during 2026.
The status of Israeli settlements in the West Bank remains one of the central disputes in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The United Nations and most of the international community consider the settlements illegal under international law, while Israel disputes that position.
