OIC Welcomes ‘Historic’ Pakistan-Saudi-Türkiye Defence Pact

Date:

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation says the trilateral agreement will strengthen collective security and promote peace and stability across the Muslim world.

JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA — WEB DESK: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the joint defence agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing the trilateral pact as a significant development for collective security and regional stability.

According to The Express Tribune, the OIC welcomed the agreement and highlighted its potential contribution to strengthening security cooperation among member states.

OIC praises trilateral defence cooperation

The organisation described the agreement as a major step toward strengthening cooperation among the three countries.

The pact establishes a framework for closer coordination on defence and security matters and reflects longstanding strategic ties between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

The OIC said stronger cooperation among member states can contribute to peace, security and stability in the wider region.

Collective security at centre of agreement

The defence pact includes a collective-defence provision under which an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against all three.

The arrangement is intended to strengthen deterrence and enhance strategic coordination among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

The agreement comes at a time of heightened tensions across the Middle East, with regional security concerns increasing in recent months.

Wider regional significance

The OIC’s endorsement gives the agreement broader significance within the Muslim world, particularly as member states face a complex regional security environment.

Pakistan has longstanding defence and strategic ties with Saudi Arabia, while relations between Pakistan and Türkiye have also expanded significantly across defence and security sectors.

The three countries have increasingly engaged in consultations on regional developments and security challenges.

The OIC’s response signals support for greater coordination among Muslim-majority countries while emphasising the importance of regional peace and stability.

Pact could deepen strategic coordination

The agreement could provide a new framework for Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to coordinate their defence policies and respond collectively to emerging security challenges.

Its implementation and the extent of future military cooperation will determine how significantly the pact reshapes regional security arrangements.

The OIC’s welcome comes as regional powers continue to reassess their strategic partnerships amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
