Batting first after Sri Lanka opted to field, New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner led the innings with a crucial 47 runs, while Cole McConchie remained unbeaten on 31. Rachin Ravindra contributed 32, Finn Allen scored 23, Glenn Phillips added 18, Tim Seifert made 8, Daryl Mitchell scored 3, and Mark Chapman was dismissed for a duck.
For Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theekshana and Dushmantha Chameera claimed three wickets each, while Dunith Wellalage picked up one wicket.
