Date:

Police say the teenager was allegedly chased and struck by a car after leaving work at the suspect’s house. A murder case has been registered, and the investigation is continuing.

MULTAN, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Police in Multan have arrested a man accused of chasing and running over a 15-year-old orphan with a car after the teenager left work at the suspect’s house. A murder case has been registered, and investigators are examining CCTV footage and the circumstances leading to the boy’s death, according to police statements.

The victim was identified as Waseem, also named Waseem Abbas in other reports. He lived at an orphanage run by a non-governmental organisation and had reportedly been sent to the suspect, identified as Tauqeer, to learn electrical work about a week before the incident.

What happened in Multan?

Multan City Police Officer Akhtar Farooq said the orphanage administration had sent the teenager to the suspect to learn a trade. The suspect reportedly worked on electrical installations at different buildings and was training the boy to become an electrician.

According to police, the teenager left the work before the suspect allegedly pursued him in a car. CCTV footage reportedly shows the boy running before being struck by the vehicle.

Police said the initial investigation had found no evidence that the teenager had committed theft. The circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the events immediately before the collision remain part of the investigation.

Orphanage staff questioned

Police have also detained some members of the orphanage administration for questioning. Investigators are examining how the teenager came to be placed with the suspect and the arrangements made for his vocational training.

Police said children from the institution had previously been sent to the suspect to learn practical skills. The inquiry is expected to examine the placement arrangements alongside witness accounts and available video evidence.

Teenager buried in Muzaffargarh

Waseem was originally from Muzaffargarh. Reports said his body was taken to his native area by relatives, and funeral prayers were held in Daultpur village before he was buried in the local ancestral graveyard.

Investigation continues

The suspect remains accused in a case that police have registered as murder. His arrest does not establish guilt; the allegations must be examined through the legal process.

Investigators are continuing to establish the sequence of events, assess the available CCTV footage and question people who may have relevant information. The inquiry is also examining the role of the orphanage administration in arranging the teenager’s placement.

The case has raised serious questions about the safety of vulnerable children placed in informal work or vocational-training arrangements. Any conclusions about responsibility should be based on verified evidence and the findings of the investigation.
