Mirzapur: The Movie Makes Strong Box Office Debut With ₹25 Crore Opening

NEW DELHI, INDIA — WEB DESK: Mirzapur: The Movie, the big-screen adaptation of the hugely popular Indian crime series, has made a strong start at the box office, collecting around ₹25 crore in India on its opening day.

The film was released in cinemas on Friday, September 4, bringing the world of Mirzapur from streaming screens to theatres with several of the franchise’s best-known characters returning. The cast includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Ravi Kishan and other prominent actors.

Early box-office estimates vary slightly depending on the methodology used. Bollywood Hungama reported an opening-day India collection of ₹24.47 crore, while India Today cited an estimated ₹24.75 crore net. Other reports put the film’s gross opening close to ₹30 crore.

The distinction is important because net and gross box-office figures are not directly interchangeable. Based on the available estimates, describing the film as earning approximately ₹25 crore net on its first day provides the clearest picture of its domestic performance.

The opening also places Mirzapur: The Movie among the strongest Hindi-language debuts of 2026. India Today reported that its estimated ₹24.75 crore net collection made it the year’s fourth-biggest Hindi opener at the time.

The film’s performance follows considerable interest during advance bookings. Before release, more than 32,000 tickets had reportedly been sold across major national cinema chains, signalling strong demand from fans of the original series.

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, the film features Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Rasika Dugal, Ravi Kishan, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Shweta Tripathi, among others.

The Mirzapur franchise first arrived as a streaming series in 2018 and had completed three seasons by 2024 before its creators expanded the crime drama into a theatrical feature.

Attention will now turn to the film’s first weekend, when its ability to sustain opening-day momentum will offer a clearer indication of its longer-term box-office prospects.
