Former dictator Gaddafi’s son shot dead in Zintan; CCTV disabled before fatal assault
Tripoli, Libya – Web Desk: Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of former Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi, was fatally shot by armed assailants at his Zintan residence, 136 km southwest of Tripoli. Local authorities and media report that four masked men stormed his home, disabling CCTV cameras to erase evidence. Gaddafi resisted the attack but was killed on the spot.
His political team confirmed the killing on social media, while Khaled al-Mishri, former head of the High State Council in Tripoli, condemned the murder and demanded a swift, transparent investigation.
Saif al-Islam, 53, was once considered his father’s heir and the second most powerful figure in Libya until Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown and killed in 2011. Arrested during an escape attempt in 2011, he was later released in 2017 under general amnesty and remained in Zintan.
