Web Desk: Hollywood legend Robert De Niro, renowned for his iconic role as a mafia lawyer in The Godfather, has passed away at the age of 95.
According to international news agency AFP, De Niro, who also earned acclaim for his performances in Apocalypse Now and other classics, died at his home, confirmed by his wife, Luciana De Niro. In a statement, she wrote, “Yesterday, I said goodbye to my husband, a dear friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time.”
De Niro’s career spanned six decades, during which he excelled in both leading and supporting roles before venturing into directing. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of a declining country singer in Tender Mercies (1983) and received multiple other Oscar nominations. His final film also earned him a posthumous Oscar nomination.
Luciana De Niro added, “To the world, he was an Oscar-winning actor, director, and writer, but to me, he was everything.” His contributions to cinema and his unforgettable performances will remain celebrated for generations.
