LEAs arrest key planner, facilitator of Islamabad attack

Date:

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The law enforcement agencies on Thursday arrested the mastermind and facilitator involved in the suicide attack on the Islamabad Judicial Complex, officials confirmed.

According to police sources, law enforcement agencies carried out a swift operation and apprehended both suspects. The facilitator had been residing in Rawalpindi for the past month, while the handler was arrested from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. So far, a total of five people have been detained in connection with the incident.

Sources revealed that both the facilitator and the suicide bomber had conducted multiple reconnaissance visits to the Judicial Complex before the attack to finalize their plan. The arrested suspects have been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

The facilitator was reportedly arrested from Dhoke Paracha, an area in Rawalpindi, where he had also been surveying key sites in the cantonment area. Both suspects were captured within 40 hours of the attack.

Earlier, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry revealed that the suicide bomber was of Afghan origin. Preliminary investigations indicated that the attacker did not understand Pakistani languages and was unfamiliar with the local currency.

Chaudhry further stated that the bomber had traveled across Islamabad on various motorcycles, and investigators learned that he struggled to pay fares in Pakistani rupees.

It is worth mentioning that the suicide attack on Islamabad’s Judicial Complex on Tuesday claimed the lives of at least 12 people and left 36 others injured.
