Kuwait Revokes Citizenship of Over 2,000 More Individuals

Date:

Kuwait City, Kuwait – Web Desk: Kuwait has announced the revocation of citizenship for over 2,000 more individuals as part of its ongoing nationality review campaign, according to official media reports.

The Gulf state’s official gazette published the names of 2,192 people whose citizenship has been cancelled, rendering the decision legally effective immediately. The latest action adds to a sweeping review process that has been underway for the past two years, examining the legality and procedures of citizenship acquisition across the country.

Official statistics indicate that approximately 50,000 individuals had already lost their Kuwaiti nationality during 2025 alone. With the new wave of revocations, the total number of affected persons has risen significantly, making it one of the largest citizenship scrutiny campaigns witnessed in the region.

Kuwaiti authorities have maintained that all citizenship revocation procedures are being carried out in accordance with national laws and regulations. The government has framed the initiative as a necessary legal review to ensure the integrity of the nationality system.

However, critics have raised concerns over the social and humanitarian consequences of the mass revocation drive. Human rights advocates and legal experts have warned that the campaign could leave thousands stateless, disrupting families and livelihoods across the country.

The ongoing review has drawn sustained attention both domestically and internationally, with observers monitoring its implications for citizenship rights and legal protections in the Gulf region.
