Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi says the government will continue without JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, calls for stronger state institutions and says intelligence-based operations may be conducted where necessary.
ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK, October 17, 2026: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said the government will continue functioning without Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, while calling for stronger state institutions and improved security across the country.
Speaking to the media, Kundi described Fazlur Rehman as an experienced politician but said he was disappointed by the JUI-F leader’s recent speech. The governor questioned Fazlur Rehman’s opposition to governor’s rule, referring to his earlier remarks about difficulties caused by the province’s law-and-order situation.
Kundi also raised questions about the political positions taken by leaders and parties, arguing that the government could continue without Fazlur Rehman’s participation. He said people wanted peace and invited the JUI-F chief to support efforts to improve security.
Governor Calls for Stronger Security Institutions
Discussing the security situation, Kundi referred to the presence of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) in Balochistan and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said the government would further strengthen security institutions. According to the governor, intelligence-based operations would be conducted wherever the security situation required them.
Kundi added that coordination between Peshawar and Islamabad had improved and said decisions about security measures would be guided by the situation on the ground.
Kundi Comments on Murad Saeed
The governor also commented on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Murad Saeed, claiming that his close relationship with PTI founder Imran Khan had previously shielded him from legal action.

Political Debate Over Governance and Security
The governor’s remarks highlight ongoing political disagreements over governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the possible use of governor’s rule and the response to security threats.
