MUMBAI, India – Web Desk: Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has successfully secured a court order directing popular YouTuber Ajey Nagar, also known as Carry Minati, to remove a parody video deemed offensive and defamatory.
The video, titled “Koffee with Jhalan”, uploaded on Carry Minati’s YouTube channel, satirized Johar’s iconic talk show “Koffee with Karan” and commented on nepotism in Bollywood. However, Johar contended that the content crossed the line from satire to personal attacks, using inappropriate language that could damage his reputation.
On February 9, a Mumbai court conducted a preliminary hearing where Judge Bhosale observed that the video appeared to contain derogatory remarks against the plaintiff. The court ordered the immediate removal of the video and prohibited any future uploads of similar content. Social media platforms, including Meta, were instructed to remove links to the video and ensure it is not re-uploaded.
Carry Minati’s legal team argued that the video had already been taken down, making legal action unnecessary. They added that Johar initiated proceedings without providing the YouTuber an opportunity to clarify or address concerns.
Despite these arguments, the court granted an interim injunction preventing Carry Minati, his team, or any channel affiliates from posting or sharing further defamatory content about Karan Johar until the next hearing. The matter remains under judicial supervision.
This case has drawn significant attention across Indian social media and entertainment circles, highlighting the increasing scrutiny on online content creators and the legal boundaries of satire in India.
