Karachi Yellow Line BRT Construction to Continue 24 Hours, Says Sharjeel Memon
KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has directed authorities to accelerate construction of Karachi’s Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project by introducing round-the-clock work across key sections.
The decision was announced during a high-level review meeting attended by transport officials, project engineers, contractors and representatives of the construction teams.
Memon instructed contractors to organise construction activities into three daily shifts to ensure work continues throughout the day and night.
He also directed project management to increase the number of workers and deploy additional machinery where necessary to speed up progress.
The minister emphasised that delays in major public transport projects create difficulties for commuters and businesses, making timely completion a priority for the provincial government.
He called for closer coordination between relevant departments to address administrative and technical obstacles affecting construction.
The Yellow Line BRT is among Karachi’s major public transport infrastructure projects and is intended to improve mobility along an important corridor connecting residential, commercial and industrial areas.
The project includes dedicated bus lanes, passenger stations and supporting road infrastructure designed to provide more organised and reliable public transport services.
Construction activity is also linked to infrastructure improvements around Jam Sadiq Bridge, an important crossing connecting parts of Karachi’s eastern and southern transport networks.
Once operational, the Yellow Line is expected to provide a more efficient alternative for commuters who currently depend on private vehicles, minibuses and other road transport services.
The project forms part of broader efforts to improve Karachi’s mass transit network and reduce pressure on congested roads.
Memon instructed officials to maintain construction standards while accelerating work and to ensure that contractors fulfil their responsibilities.
The provincial government has identified public transport development as an important priority, with several BRT corridors planned or under construction across Karachi.
The latest directive is intended to increase construction activity and reduce delays, although the actual completion schedule will depend on implementation, coordination and progress at individual project sites.
