Police have arrested Koneen Shah, the main suspect accused of assaulting Karachi University professor Arif Saqi and his nephew.
KARACHI – Web Desk: Police have arrested Koneen Shah, the main suspect accused of assaulting Karachi University professor Arif Saqi and his nephew following a minor dispute in Karachi.
According to police officials, Shah was arrested amid concerns that he could flee the city. The suspect had previously obtained pre-arrest bail, officials said.
Standing committee takes notice
The arrest came after the issue was discussed during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior chaired by Faryal Talpur on Thursday.
Talpur expressed strong displeasure over the failure to arrest the main suspect and directed police officials to take immediate steps to apprehend him.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, a heavy police contingent also shut down the suspect’s restaurant located in the Safoora area of Karachi.
Professor and nephew allegedly assaulted
According to the case details, the incident took place on Tuesday outside the restaurant.
Police said Koneen Shah, along with several associates, allegedly assaulted Karachi University professor Arif Saqi and his nephew, Waheed, following a minor dispute.
A case has been registered at Sachal Police Station in connection with the incident.
The arrest marks a development in the case, while further legal proceedings against the suspect are expected to follow.
