Karachi to get Rs21.53B for infrastructure projects

KARACHI (Web Desk) – In a major relief for Karachi residents, the Sindh government has approved over Rs21.53 billion for the rehabilitation of roads and improvement of infrastructure across the city.

The approval was granted during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, which was attended by Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Chairman P&D Najam Shah, and senior officials from the Local Government Department and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that the restoration of Karachi’s roads would significantly improve urban mobility and boost economic activity. He stressed that public convenience and citizen safety remain the top priorities of the Sindh government.

The chief minister approved a special grant of Rs13 billion specifically for road rehabilitation. During the briefing, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab identified 409 dilapidated roads across the city that require urgent repairs. According to the CM’s spokesperson, financial assistance has also been approved for 24 Town Municipal Corporations.

Provincial Minister Nasir Hussain Shah informed the meeting that patchwork repairs will be carried out on 400 roads across Karachi’s seven districts, while nine roads will undergo complete reconstruction. He added that road, sewerage, and water supply projects would cost a total of Rs12.57 billion.

The meeting also approved Rs8.53 billion for projects related to roads, drains, and street lights, and directed KMC to rehabilitate 26 major roads in the city.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah instructed authorities to ensure transparency, quality, and timely completion of all projects, and directed the Finance Department to release funds immediately.
