Karachi shivers as mercury falls amid intensifying cold spell

Date:

KARACHI (Web Desk) – The winter chill has tightened its grip on Karachi, with temperatures dropping significantly across the city.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its latest 24-hour weather forecast, predicting continued cold and dry conditions in Karachi.

According to official data, the minimum temperature recorded at the government weather station located at the Old Airport was 12.5°C. However, the lowest temperature in the city was observed at the Jinnah Terminal weather station, where the mercury fell to 8.9°C — marking one of the season’s coldest readings so far.

In Bin Qasim, the minimum temperature remained slightly higher at 12.1°C, while Shahrah-e-Faisal and Mauripur (Air Force weather station) recorded a low of 13.5°C.

Meteorologists stated that Karachi will experience cold and dry weather over the next 24 hours, with nighttime and early morning temperatures expected to remain between 11°C and 13°C. The minimum temperature on Monday settled at 12.5°C, consistent with seasonal trends, but slightly lower than earlier forecasts.

For today, the PMD expects daytime temperatures to remain between 28°C and 30°C, offering mild relief during the afternoon despite the persistent winter cold.

Light morning fog reduced visibility to 3.5 kilometers in parts of the city, affecting early commuters. The Met Office also noted that winds are likely to blow from multiple directions at speeds ranging between 10 and 30 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, humidity levels are expected to fluctuate between 10% and 50% over the next 24 hours.

The increasing cold comes as Karachi transitions deeper into the winter season, with meteorologists advising residents to brace for further temperature drops in the coming days.
