Karachi Port Sees Record Cargo Handling, Ship Arrivals Surge

Date:

Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Karachi Port has reported a significant rise in both ship arrivals and cargo handling over the past month, signaling a boost in trade activity.

According to port authorities, March 2026 saw an increase in vessel arrivals compared to the previous month and the same period last year, with container ships and tankers dominating incoming traffic. The surge highlights improved commercial and industrial activity in the region.

In the past 24 hours alone, Karachi Port handled a total of 165,476 metric tons of cargo, including 41,209 MT of exports and 124,267 MT of imports, indicating higher import volumes. Seven vessels, including container ships, tankers, and bulk cargo carriers, docked at the port, while six vessels departed.

Containerized cargo accounted for the largest portion at 110,040 MT, alongside clinker, cement, rice, fertilizer, and liquid cargo. Officials also noted that multiple additional container and cargo vessels are expected to arrive over the next two days, suggesting continued growth in port activity.

Karachi Port’s performance reflects not only Pakistan’s strategic role in regional trade but also the resilience of its commercial shipping sector.
