Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon slams calls to hand Karachi to federal control after tragic incidents.

Karachi, Pakistan – Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon strongly opposed proposals to hand over Karachi to federal control, criticizing those advocating this move as responsible for past tragedies linked to extortion. Addressing a press conference, Memon emphasized that abolishing the 18th Amendment could lead to incidents like the devastating Gul Plaza fire. He highlighted the loss of lives and ongoing investigations into the disaster, assuring that all DNA tests and victim identifications are underway.

Memon condemned political exploitation of tragedies, stating that the government stands with victims’ families and is implementing fire safety SOPs in remaining buildings. He also mentioned interest-free loan schemes for affected shopkeepers and vowed strict action against negligence.

The minister recalled previous attacks on markets post-Ashura and timber markets, emphasizing continued government support for victims. Sharjeel Memon warned against misleading propaganda on social media and stressed that Karachi’s safety and administration must remain under provincial oversight.
