Doors Locked, Negligence Suspected; Full Probe Ordered
Karachi: Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso has rejected claims that the deadly fire at Gul Plaza was caused merely by a short circuit, calling it a major tragedy that demands transparent and comprehensive investigation.
Speaking to the media outside Gul Plaza, DC South said it was too early to label the incident as an electrical fault. Authorities are investigating why multiple doors were locked, taking statements from eyewitnesses, and examining every possible angle to fix responsibility.
He confirmed that 55 to 60 bodies have been recovered so far, while DNA samples are being collected for identification. Around 80 people are feared dead, with rescue operations still underway due to the building’s unstable condition. Nearly 40% of the structure has collapsed, making the operation extremely risky.
DC Khoso warned the public not to trust unverified social media reports, assuring that updates will be shared officially as investigations progress. He emphasized that any negligence uncovered will lead to strict legal action.
