Sindh govt accelerates Red & Yellow Line BRT completion to improve urban mobility
Senior Sindh Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the completion of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects will bring a visible improvement to Karachi’s public transport system.
He expressed these views while presiding over a high-level meeting of the Transport Department, where progress on the Red Line and Yellow Line BRT projects was reviewed in detail. The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, CEO TransKarachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, Yellow Line BRT Project Director Zamir Abbasi, and officials of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA).
During the briefing, SMTA officials informed the minister about plans to introduce additional electric buses and EV taxis in Karachi. The CEO of TransKarachi provided an update on ongoing work on the Red Line BRT, stating that construction on both sides near NIPA Chowrangi is nearing completion.
Meanwhile, the Yellow Line BRT project director informed the meeting that demolition work on the second portion of Senator Taj Haider Bridge is underway and construction on the next phase will begin soon.
Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that all available resources are being utilized to ensure timely completion of the projects. He stated that the Red and Yellow Line BRT corridors will play a vital role in connecting key commercial hubs and major areas of Karachi.
He further directed authorities to resolve all field-level issues promptly to avoid delays, stressing that modern urban transport is essential for any city’s development. The minister also announced that the second phase of the Pink Scooties program will begin soon and instructed officials to expand the initiative to other cities of Sindh.
