Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Law enforcement agencies have averted a major terrorist attack in Karachi with the arrest of a trained suicide bomber belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), according to officials .
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh, in collaboration with federal intelligence agencies, conducted a joint intelligence-based operation in the city, resulting in the capture of Salman alias Abu Hurairah, a highly trained TTP operative .
Recovery of Explosives and Maps
CTD officials said the suspect, who had received specialized commando training for suicide attacks in Afghanistan, was in possession of a ready-to-use suicide jacket, maps, and photographs of highly sensitive locations across Karachi .
Details of the Plot
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect had arrived in Karachi with an accomplice, Idrees alias Asadullah, with their initial target believed to be targeted killings . The arrested suspect was a close associate of the deceased terrorist Zafarani alias Abu Hurairah, who was killed in an encounter . The suspect was also directly involved in a previous attack on a textile mill that had targeted foreign nationals .
The suspect was reportedly planning a major suicide operation in Karachi under the direction of a commander named “Mawlawi Mukhlis Yar.”
Ongoing Operations
CTD officials revealed that additional suicide bombers from the network were expected to arrive in Karachi, prompting joint teams to intensify raids across various parts of the city .
A case has been registered against the arrested suspect under terrorism and explosives acts at CTD police station. Investigations are ongoing, with officials expecting significant revelations and further arrests in the coming days .
