KARACHI (Web Desk) – Jinnah International Airport in Karachi has achieved a major milestone, with its renovated main runway now fully prepared to accommodate the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380. The airport marked the occasion with a traditional water salute, celebrating its upgraded capabilities.

Following extensive renovations, Runway 25R has been upgraded to handle wide-body aircraft, including the Airbus A380, ensuring modern standards for safety and operational efficiency. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is scheduled to operate the inaugural flight on the newly upgraded runway today.

The reconstruction of the main runway was completed within the 18-month timeline set by the authorities, while the renovation of Runway 07L/25R also included an upgrade in its classification, aligning with international aviation standards.

The airport successfully conducted its first trial landing on January 3, 2026, confirming the runway’s readiness. Today’s inaugural flight after reconstruction was welcomed with a ceremonial water cannon salute, symbolizing Karachi Airport’s readiness to handle modern, large-scale aviation operations.

The upgrades position Jinnah International Airport as one of Pakistan’s most modern air hubs, capable of managing the operational demands of the largest commercial aircraft and improving passenger and airline services.
