Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput Appointed Chief Justice of Sindh High Court
KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput as the new Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, with the appointment set to take effect from October 4, 2026.
The appointment follows the elevation of incumbent Sindh High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Justice Rajput is currently among the senior judges of the Sindh High Court and will assume leadership of one of Pakistan’s largest provincial high courts following the transition.
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan had recommended Justice Junaid Ghaffar for appointment as a Supreme Court judge, creating the vacancy at the top of the Sindh High Court.
President Zardari subsequently approved Justice Rajput’s appointment as chief justice in exercise of the constitutional powers governing appointments to the superior judiciary.
Justice Rajput has served on the Sindh High Court bench for several years and has heard cases covering constitutional, civil, criminal and administrative matters.
His appointment comes during a period of significant developments in Pakistan’s judicial system, with changes taking place across the superior courts.
The Sindh High Court plays a central role in constitutional and legal matters arising across Sindh, including Karachi, and exercises supervisory jurisdiction over the province’s subordinate judiciary.
As chief justice, Justice Rajput will assume responsibility for the administrative leadership of the high court alongside his judicial duties.
The transition will take effect following Justice Junaid Ghaffar’s elevation to the Supreme Court.
Further formalities, including the oath-taking process, are expected to accompany the change in leadership of the Sindh High Court.
