JUI-F Announces Anti-Government Rally in Multan for October 15
LAHORE, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl has announced a major anti-government gathering in Multan on October 15, where party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is expected to unveil the next phase of the party’s protest movement.
The gathering will be held in the form of the Mufti Mahmood Conference in Multan, with JUI-F presenting the event as an important step in its campaign over political, economic and security issues.
JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri said the party was moving forward with its anti-government campaign and expected the Multan gathering to play an important role in shaping the political direction of South Punjab.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, JUI-F Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and other senior central and provincial leaders are scheduled to address the conference.
The party says Fazlur Rehman will use the gathering to announce the next phase of its protest movement.
JUI-F has identified inflation, unemployment, deteriorating law and order, public rights, rule of law and demands for free and transparent elections among the central issues behind its campaign.
The party has instructed workers to accelerate preparations for the Multan gathering and mobilise supporters ahead of October 15.
JUI-F has increasingly positioned itself as part of the wider opposition to the federal government in recent months.
Fazlur Rehman has also defended peaceful political protest as a constitutional right and called for political disputes to be addressed through dialogue.
The JUI-F chief recently said his party would support a no-confidence motion against the government if one were formally tabled, although he acknowledged that the opposition currently lacked the numbers required for such a move.
JUI-F has also been holding consultations with other opposition parties as discussions continue over greater coordination inside and outside parliament.
The October 15 gathering could therefore provide a clearer indication of whether JUI-F intends to pursue its protest campaign independently or seek closer coordination with other opposition forces.
The party has not yet publicly disclosed the specific measures Fazlur Rehman intends to announce in Multan.
Attention will now turn to the size of the gathering and the next phase of political action announced by the JUI-F leadership.
