ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) held a meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan and Commission Chairman Justice Yahya Afridi, to deliberate on the appointment of the new Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC).

According to sources, the commission discussed three senior judges for the top judicial position in Sindh. After detailed consultation, the JCP approved the name of Justice Zafar Rajput for appointment as the next Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court.

The decision comes as part of the constitutional process under which appointments to the superior judiciary require the recommendation of the Judicial Commission followed by approval from the Parliamentary Committee.

Officials confirmed that following the commission’s recommendation, the summary for Justice Zafar Rajput’s elevation will now be forwarded to the President of Pakistan. Once approved, a formal notification will be issued to finalize the appointment.

The meeting was convened amid ongoing deliberations on permanent appointments of chief justices in various high courts, reflecting the judiciary’s efforts to ensure continuity and strengthen institutional leadership.

Born on Oct 16, 1965 in Hyderabad, Justice Rajput was enrolled as a lawyer for subordinate judiciary in 1990 and became an advocate of the SHC in 2001. He had also served as a judicial officer from 1993 to 2001 in the subordinate judiciary and later left the service and started his private practice as a lawyer. He was appointed as a judge of the SHC in August 2013.
