Dhaka — Web Desk: Vote counting continued on Thursday in Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary elections, with a tight contest expected between alliances led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami. As results trickled in, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman issued an appeal to supporters and raised concerns about alleged voting irregularities in several regions.
Speaking during the ongoing electoral process, Rahman accused unidentified actors of attempting to cast fake votes in different parts of the country. He urged citizens and party workers to remain vigilant and safeguard polling stations until the official results are announced, stressing the importance of protecting what he described as the people’s mandate.
“If God grants us success, there will be no rallies, no slogans, and no celebrations,” Rahman said. “We will prostrate in gratitude and thank Almighty God. We will seek only His help to serve the nation.” His remarks reflected a religious and moral tone, underscoring the party’s emphasis on humility and accountability in the event of an electoral victory.
Meanwhile, a joint press conference was held at Jamaat-e-Islami’s central office in Dhaka by an alliance of 11 parties. The coalition described the voting process as largely positive and expressed optimism about achieving a decisive victory in the parliamentary polls.
The election is seen as a critical moment for Bangladesh’s political future, with analysts closely watching turnout, allegations of irregularities, and the credibility of the electoral process. Authorities have deployed security forces nationwide to maintain order and ensure a peaceful counting process.
Observers say the outcome could shape Bangladesh’s political trajectory, governance priorities, and relations with regional and global partners. Official results are expected to be announced in phases as counting continues across constituencies.
