Jerusalem, Palestine – Web Desk: Israeli authorities have banned the Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abbasi, from the compound for one week, according to Palestinian media reports.
The imam was reportedly detained by Israeli forces at the Al-Aqsa compound without any explanation and later issued a temporary exclusion order. Israeli authorities have also imposed restrictions on Palestinian imams leading Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan, the reports said.
The move comes amid increased Israeli measures at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, including tighter entry restrictions on Palestinian worshippers. Palestinian sources say the latest action reflects a broader escalation in Israeli policies toward the holy site.
Separately, Israel’s newly appointed police chief has reportedly extended the visiting hours for Jewish settlers inside the Al-Aqsa compound to five hours during Ramadan, further raising tensions in Jerusalem.
