Islamabad: In a tragic incident late Monday night, two young women riding an electric scooter were fatally struck by a speeding V8 vehicle in the Secretariat police jurisdiction of the federal capital.
According to police, the driver was identified as Abu Zar, the underage son of a senior figure at the Islamabad High Court. Witnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling at extremely high speed, and the collision was so severe that the scooter was thrown several feet away. The victims, aged 25 and 27, died instantly. One of them was said to be an interior designer at the National College of Arts.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect, born in July 2009, did not possess a driving license. At the time of the accident, he was allegedly recording a video for a social media application. Police arrested the driver on the spot and seized the vehicle.
The suspect was presented before a local court on Tuesday. Investigators requested a seven-day physical remand, but the court approved a four-day remand. Police sources revealed that the suspect’s permanent residence is in Quetta and that he lacked both a valid ID card and driving license.
According to the remand papers, the accused admitted to reckless and negligent driving, which led to the fatal crash. He also confessed to discarding his mobile phone immediately after the incident. Investigators are seeking to recover the device to examine the video allegedly recorded moments before the accident.
Authorities stated that further steps include verifying the suspect’s age through medical tests, collecting CCTV footage from the accident site, and determining whether he was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
