- ISLAMABAD (Web-Desk ) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Tuesday hailed the launch of first Chromebook assembly line in Pakistan, calling it a “defining moment” for digital transformation in country.
Dar stated this while addressing the event titled “Building the Digital Future, Together” marking the launch of first Chromebook assembly line.
He said that localizing the initiative would make access to digital tools more affordable and inclusive, particularly in the education sector.
“From the launch of Pakistan’s first Chromebook assembly line to Google’s announcement of establishing a local presence in Pakistan and to the agreement between the Government of Pakistan and Google to upskill our youth, this is a defining moment for our country’s digital transformation,” he said addressing the event attended by federal ministers, IT experts and representatives of tech giant Google.
He noted that the initiative would pave the way for job creation, supply chain development, and future technology exports, marking a critical step in Pakistan’s digital transformation.
Speaking at the event, Dar emphasized that the move would strengthen Pakistan’s ties with Google, bringing the tech giant closer to the country’s developers, startups, and entrepreneurs. This collaboration, he said, would enable direct partnerships, capacity-building opportunities, and enhanced access to global platforms.
Addressing Google’s management, Dar reassured them that they would not regret establishing operations in Pakistan. He expressed confidence that, in the coming years, multinational companies and other international partners would follow suit, highlighting Pakistan’s rapid progress towards becoming a key player in the global economy.
As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Google, Dar announced that the partnership would offer AI skills training to 100,000 developers across the country. He stressed that the government is committed to creating an environment conducive to technological investment and collaboration.
To support this, Dar mentioned the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), designed to expedite business setup processes and foster a sustainable local presence for tech companies. He also pointed out that Pakistan’s policies aim to position the country as a regional hub for technology, underpinned by a regulatory framework that fosters innovation, ensures transparency, and attracts investment.
