Iraq Suspends Oil Loading at Basra Terminals After Drone Attack

Date:

Iraq has suspended crude oil loading operations at all Basra oil terminals after a drone struck an oil tanker at the Basra Oil Terminal, according to sources cited by Reuters.

Basra, Iraq – Web Desk: The precautionary suspension was imposed shortly after the drone collided with the tanker, prompting authorities to halt loading activities while the incident is assessed. No immediate information was available on the origin of the drone or who may have been responsible for the attack.

Basra’s oil terminals, located in southern Iraq, handle the majority of the country’s crude oil exports, making them strategically important to global energy markets.

The latest incident follows another reported drone-related event a day earlier at Iraq’s Al-Faw Port, where a drone reportedly crashed without causing damage. Port operations continued normally after that incident.

The back-to-back security incidents have raised concerns over the safety of Iraq’s critical energy infrastructure and the potential impact on global oil supply chains if disruptions continue.
