TEHRAN, Iran – Web Desk: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has made it clear that negotiations on a final agreement with the United States will not begin if threats and pressure against Iran continue . Araghchi emphasized that Paragraph 13 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) explicitly addresses this condition, stating that if either party maintains threatening behavior, formal talks on a final deal will not commence.
The 14-point Islamabad Memorandum, signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on June 18 with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif endorsing as mediator, initiated a 60-day period of diplomacy aimed at reaching a lasting peace deal . The agreement includes provisions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the US naval blockade .
Araghchi’s remarks came shortly after Trump warned that Washington is prepared to use military force if diplomacy fails, insisting Tehran must never acquire a nuclear weapon . “We’re either going to make a deal or we’re going to finish the job,” Trump told reporters at the White House .
The Iranian Foreign Minister also addressed the massive public turnout for the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing it as evidence that the Iranian nation remains united on its national principles .
Political analysts note that Araghchi’s statement comes amid ongoing diplomatic contacts between Iran and the US regarding a future agreement and regional security, but restoring trust between the two countries remains a significant challenge.
