Washington, United States – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Israel will halt military operations targeting Beirut after a series of high-level diplomatic contacts with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and indirect communication with Hezbollah.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Trump said he held a “productive and constructive” conversation with Netanyahu, following which it was agreed that Israeli forces would not enter Beirut and troops heading toward the Lebanese capital were ordered to return.
The US president further stated that indirect talks were also held with Hezbollah through senior intermediaries, during which the group reportedly agreed to suspend attacks. According to Trump, this would mean that Israel would not carry out strikes against Hezbollah, and Hezbollah would also refrain from attacking Israel.
Despite the announcement, there has been no immediate official confirmation from either the Israeli government or Hezbollah.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region, following earlier reports that Israel had ordered strikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Beirut. Israel has accused Hezbollah of violating ceasefire understandings and continuing attacks on northern Israel.
Iran had also signaled potential suspension of indirect talks with the United States in response to the escalating situation.
