Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has claimed the seizure of a foreign oil tanker named “Ocean Koi” in the Persian Gulf amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington over maritime security and oil shipments in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian state media reports, the vessel was taken into custody during what officials described as a “special operation” carried out by Iranian naval forces and members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Iranian authorities alleged that the tanker was involved in efforts to disrupt Iranian oil exports and undermine the country’s national interests. Reports said the vessel was later escorted toward Iran’s southern coastline.
Some media reports suggested that the tanker was registered under the Barbados flag and had previously faced US sanctions.
The incident comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most strategically important oil shipping routes. Concerns over maritime security and global energy supplies have intensified as diplomatic uncertainty between Iran and the United States continues.
Analysts warn that any disruption in Gulf shipping lanes could impact global oil markets and increase volatility in international energy prices.
