Iran Says US Attack on Boats in Hormuz Kills 5 Civilians

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iranian state media has claimed that a U.S. military strike on boats in the Strait of Hormuz killed five civilians, raising fresh concerns over escalating tensions in the strategic waterway.

According to Iranian reports, the incident occurred during a U.S.-led operation aimed at restoring maritime navigation in the region. Iranian news agencies said the boats targeted were not affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) but were civilian vessels transporting passengers and goods.

Tasnim News Agency, citing a military official, reported that U.S. forces fired on two small cargo boats traveling from Khasab toward the Iranian coast, resulting in the deaths of five individuals.

Iranian authorities described the incident as a result of miscalculation and heightened U.S. concerns over fast-moving vessels often associated with the IRGC.

Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) ранее stated that it had destroyed six Iranian boats and intercepted cruise missiles and drones, as part of an ongoing operation to secure shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.

Analysts warn that the incident could further escalate regional tensions, potentially disrupting global energy supplies and maritime trade through one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
