Iran Rejects Foreign Role in Strait of Hormuz, Criticises Bahrain Summit

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has strongly criticised a recent US-backed regional security summit held in Bahrain, declaring that decisions regarding the security and management of the Strait of Hormuz cannot be made by any foreign military alliance.

Speaking on the issue, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi rejected the outcome of the Bahrain meeting, stating that the Strait of Hormuz is an integral part of Iran’s sovereignty and regional reality.

He stressed that authority over the strategic waterway rests with Iran and regional stakeholders, not with foreign military structures or the United States Central Command.

According to Gharibabadi, the military-oriented gathering attended by representatives from 12 countries cannot establish a legitimate or permanent security framework for the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian official argued that lasting peace and stability in the region can only be achieved through reduced foreign military involvement, respect for national sovereignty, and recognition of evolving geopolitical realities in the Middle East.

He further emphasized that regional security should be ensured through cooperation, diplomacy, and confidence-building measures among neighboring countries rather than reliance on external military alliances.

The remarks came in response to a recently held regional security conference in Bahrain, supported by the United States, where delegates discussed maritime security, freedom of navigation, and rising tensions in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

Analysts say Iran’s latest statement highlights the growing strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy transit route that remains at the center of international diplomatic and security discussions.
