Iran Finalizes Deal to Release $12 Billion in Frozen Assets

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf has confirmed that negotiations held in Switzerland have finalized the signing process for the release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, marking a significant development in ongoing diplomatic efforts involving Tehran and Western powers.

According to Iranian officials, Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have also arrived in Oman for discussions related to maritime coordination in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes.

In a statement, Ghalibaf said the parties had agreed to establish a communication mechanism aimed at coordinating vessel movements through the Strait of Hormuz and reducing the risk of misunderstandings, confrontation, or regional escalation.

He added that the Switzerland talks had concluded with the finalization of signatures required for the release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets. The move is expected to provide Tehran with greater financial flexibility following years of economic restrictions.

The Iranian parliament speaker further stated that the Switzerland negotiations included an agreement supporting guarantees for Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty as part of broader regional stabilization efforts.

The development comes after the United States lifted restrictions on Iranian oil sales, allowing Iran to export petroleum products globally, including to major international markets, for a two-month period. Iranian authorities have confirmed the easing of sanctions and the restoration of certain frozen assets.

However, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said restrictions related to Iranian oil purchases remain in place for North Korea, Cuba and Ukraine.

The latest diplomatic breakthrough could have significant implications for regional security, global energy markets and future engagement between Iran and Western governments.
