Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismisses rumors, says peace restored across Iran
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly rejected reports suggesting that protesters in the country could face execution. In an interview with US broadcaster Fox News, Araghchi emphasized that there is no plan to carry out such actions and described the circulating claims as “completely baseless.”
Araghchi stated that the recent demonstrations, which lasted for ten days in response to economic hardships, were largely peaceful. According to the Foreign Minister, only three days witnessed instances of violence, which he claimed were orchestrated by external actors, including Israel, to destabilize the country.
“The question of executing protesters does not arise at all,” Araghchi said, highlighting that the Iranian government has regained full control and restored peace across the nation. He stressed that misinformation spread in international media has distorted the realities of the situation inside Iran.
The protests, triggered by economic difficulties, had initially been peaceful, with citizens voicing their grievances through organized demonstrations. Following this period, sporadic violence occurred, which the Iranian authorities assert was incited by foreign interference.
The Iranian government’s position reflects ongoing tension between Iran and international media narratives, particularly regarding the portrayal of domestic unrest. While global news outlets reported concerns over harsh punitive measures, Iranian officials insist the country’s response has been measured and within the bounds of law enforcement.
Analysts note that this clarification by Araghchi may be aimed at countering what Tehran considers propaganda designed to exaggerate instability in the region. The statement reinforces the Iranian perspective that the country is addressing internal economic issues while maintaining public order.
