Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Iran has effectively entered the war against Ukraine by supplying weapons to Russia, warning that Kyiv must stay alert to new threats.
Kyiv, Ukraine – Web Desk: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Iran has already joined the war against Ukraine by supplying weapons to Russia, adding that Kyiv must remain vigilant against the possibility of new threats emerging from the conflict.
In an interview, Zelensky was asked whether Iran could launch a direct attack on Ukraine following an incident involving an Iranian vessel. Responding to the question, he said Ukraine needed to exercise caution and make every possible effort to prevent a new front from opening in the ongoing war.
Zelensky said Iran and North Korea had already attacked Ukraine in the current conflict, expressing hope that neither country would expand its involvement further. At the same time, he stressed that Ukraine had to remain prepared for every possible scenario going forward.
According to Zelensky, Iran effectively became part of the war against Ukraine from its early stages by supplying Russia with weapons. He alleged that Tehran had provided Moscow with thousands of Shahed drones since the war began, and later also supplied licenses enabling Russia to manufacture the drones domestically.
The comments come amid heightened regional tensions, following a separate development in which Iran summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires to lodge a formal protest after an attack on a commercial vessel. Iran’s Foreign Ministry described the incident as an act of aggression and stated that Tehran reserves the right to defend its national interests and security.
Zelensky’s remarks reflect Kyiv’s continuing concern over Iran’s role in supporting Russia’s military campaign, an issue Ukrainian officials have raised repeatedly since the early phase of the war. The use of Iranian-designed drones by Russian forces has been a recurring point of contention between Kyiv and Tehran.
The broader region remains on edge amid ongoing hostilities involving Iran, with related developments — including U.S. military assessments and diplomatic exchanges — continuing to unfold.
