Stanley, New Mexico, United States – Web Desk: Investigators in the US state of New Mexico have begun searching the former ranch of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, where he and associates were accused of sexually abusing women and underage girls.
Authorities said the search operation started Monday at the secluded property near Santa Fe, following the emergence of new information contained in documents released earlier this year by the United States Department of Justice.
Investigation Reopened
The investigation was reopened by Raúl Torrez last month after authorities reviewed newly released records related to Epstein’s activities.
Among the allegations contained in the documents is a claim that Epstein ordered the bodies of two foreign girls to be buried in hills near the ranch — an accusation investigators are now attempting to verify.
The property lies about 30 miles south of Santa Fe in a remote high-plains region where Epstein frequently hosted guests for decades.
Search Operation Underway
According to witnesses, state police vehicles, rescue units, and government teams were seen at the ranch during the search operation. A vehicle carrying dogs was also observed leaving the property, suggesting that cadaver dogs may be part of the investigation.
Officials said authorities will continue gathering evidence and following all leads.
“The New Mexico Department of Justice will continue to support survivors and follow the facts wherever they lead,” the department said in a statement.
Background of the Case
Jeffrey Epstein died in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges. His associate Ghislaine Maxwell was later convicted for helping recruit and abuse underage girls.
The ranch had long been linked to allegations that Epstein hosted influential visitors, including politicians, businessmen, and scientists.
Previous Investigation Closed
New Mexico authorities previously closed their investigation into Epstein’s ranch activities in 2019 at the request of federal authorities. However, the case has now been reopened after millions of newly released files shed light on Epstein’s social and political connections.
Last month, the state also launched a legislative “truth commission” to investigate whether public corruption allowed Epstein to operate for more than two decades without scrutiny.
Ownership of the Ranch
Epstein’s estate sold the property in 2023 to Texas businessman Don Huffines, who renamed it San Rafael Ranch.
Authorities said the new owners are cooperating with investigators and granted permission for the search to take place.
