Internet speed to go up 40% after new cable lands in Pakistan

Date:

KARACHI (Web Desk) – Federal Secretary for Information and Technology Zarar Hasim Khan on Tuesday said that CME-W6 cable will increase internet speed by 40 percent in Pakistan.

The CME-W6 cable, part of a massive 21,700-kilometer network, has already reached the shores of Hawks Bay, Karachi.

This is part of an ongoing effort by Transworld, a prominent global digital solutions provider, to lay the cable across the sea bed.

Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Transworld Amiruddin said that the cable itself spans from Singapore to France, with a crucial hub in Karachi, Pakistan, allowing seamless data exchange between Pakistan and several key international markets.

This project marks an important milestone as it is the fifth submarine cable brought to Pakistan by company.

Previously, the company had successfully introduced three other cables to the country in 2005, 2015, and 2024.

The CME-W6 cable is particularly notable for its collaboration between 16 major international companies, forming a consortium to bring high-speed broadband to Pakistan.

The launch of this submarine cable comes as part of Pakistan’s broader initiative to digitally transform the nation. The government’s push to embrace digital technologies and global connectivity highlights its commitment to integrating with the rest of the world in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

With the completion of the CME-W6, Pakistan is poised to benefit from faster internet speeds, more reliable data connections, and a stronger presence in the global digital economy.
